How is an Ultrasound Scan performed?

Ultrasound Scan service is a form of technology that uses sound waves to make images. A transducer (or rod) is inserted into your vagina or over your abdomen during pregnancy. It emits sound waves from your baby's muscles, fluid, and bones. You know something is happening inside in sickness, cravings, or the constant need to urinate. But pregnancy sometimes does not sound real until your first pregnancy test.

An ultrasound scan is used to ensure the baby's heartbeat and the baby's place in your womb. Later, ultrasound examined the growth of the fetus and the location of the placenta and the general health of the baby and its structure.

Towards the end of pregnancy, ultrasounds can assist check the size of your cervix (if there are any doubts that you may have an early birth) and making sure your baby is in a downward position before the operation.

When Ultrasound was performed during pregnancy

Women should receive at least one sonogram in the second trimester, between 18 and 22 weeks of gestation. You may also get an additional ultrasound in the first trimester, before your 14th week of pregnancy.

First trimester

Early ultrasound is usually part of antenatal care between 6 and 9 weeks of pregnancy, although it can happen before week 14. But first-trimester ultrasound is not a common practice because it is too early for your Radiology specialist to see the baby in detail.

Most staffers wait at least six weeks to perform the first pregnancy ultrasound. However, a pregnancy bag can be detected 4 1/2 weeks after your last period, and the baby's heartbeat can be seen by 5 to 6 weeks (though not always).

Second-trimester ultrasound

Between 18 and 22 weeks, a trained sonographer will perform a detailed anatomy scan called a 2nd-degree ultrasound during your pregnancy.

The second-trimester ultrasound is authentic and fun to watch. It also gives you and your doctor a picture of your baby's life and pregnancy.

Ultrasound of the second typical trimester is usually performed in 2D. Although ultrasound technology is considered very safe, doctors prefer to be very careful and reduce the penetration of your uterus.

How is an ultrasound performed?

You will get your scans at the Aruna Scan and Diagnostic center. Scans are usually done in a dimly lit room so that your doctor can better see the pictures on the screen.

Depending on the type of scanner you find, you will need to remove some of your clothes or change your clothes. You will be asked to lie down on the test table to be tested.

In most cases, your husband, family member or friend, will be able to be with you in the room during the scan. However, it is still a good idea to check this out early when booking your appointment.

Abdominal scan

In the first trimester, a tummy tuck is usually done full-time. Total this may be uncomfortable, but it makes the baby more comfortable by moving the uterus up into your abdomen and pushing the intestine up and out of the way. You will need to drink a few glasses of water before your appointment to have a total dose during the procedure.

To have a tummy tuck, lie on your back on a treadmill with your stomach exposed. Then slide the transducer back and forth over your belly to transmit sound waves. The doctor will apply a cooling gel over your abdomen to improve proper performance.

Transvaginal scan

If your baby is still very deep in your pelvis, or if you are overweight, the pictures will not be noticeable. In this case, you will need a transvaginal scan (TVS) performed on the vagina.

A transvaginal scan will give you a clearer picture of your baby, especially if you are in the early stages of pregnancy. You will not need a full bladder for this type of scan.

You will need to undress from the waist down to get the TVS and lie down on the test table. The nurse will cover your legs with a sheet and ask you to lift your knees while keeping your feet under the bed. You will need to separate your legs so that the doctor can perform the examination and have enough space to perform the scan. This position is similar to the one you take when you have an internal examination.

Remember that both male and female ultrasound doctors perform scans. If you feel embarrassed or uncomfortable with a vaginal examination by a male ultrasound doctor, talk to your doctor. She may recommend a female doctor instead of making you feel comfortable. Aruna Diagnostics offers all the Health Checkups to individuals.
