Two well-known imaging tests are CT Scans and MRI scans. Both are employed to capture accurate images of organs, bones, and other tissues. The difference is that MRI Scans use radio waves and CT scans use X-rays. Although both are low risk, there are advantages and disadvantages to each other, and how doctors choose which option is best depends on the circumstances that can make one a better choice than the other.
CT SCAN
CT scan services work like X-rays, only in detail. The patient lies on a table with a small scanning ring during the scan, taking a series of images at different angles. These images are used to see bone and soft tissue abnormalities, joint problems, tumors, cancer, heart disease, evidence of internal bleeding, or blood clots. These collected images can be grouped to form a three-dimensional image. A different dye may be used for better clarity in the resulting images.
We can create an image of almost the entire body, from the neck to the thighs, with a CT scan in just seconds. CTs are incredibly useful in diagnosing cancer patients, testing for recurrence, and monitoring the effectiveness of treatment. CT scans are more commonly used than MRIs and are generally less expensive.
MRI SCAN
MRI also creates more detailed images, using radio waves and powerful magnets to produce images. During the process, the patient rests inside a tube-like machine that has a magnetic field to produce his images, processed and stored on a computer. Similar to a CT Scan, these images can show the difference between standard and sick tissue.
MRI is very effective in taking pictures that help doctors see if there is any abnormal tissue in the body. MRI scans in Hyderabad are thought to be superior in terms of imaging, but when an MRI is truly successful, it reveals certain diseases that a CT scan can detect. Other cancers, such as prostate cancer, cervical cancer, and certain liver cancer, are less visible or more challenging to detect on a CT scan. Bone and brain metastases are also best seen on MRI. MRIs also do not use ionizing radiation, so there is no problem with increased cancer risk.
Use of MRI Scan
MRI is used for:
- Disorders of the mind, spine, etc.
- Abscesses, cancer, and other diseases.
- Women with breast cancer.
- Problems related to the joints and bones.
- Heart failure.
- Women with pelvic pain, thus causing endometriosis.
- Cervical Disorders in Women.
- Childlessness for women.
Use of CT Scan
CT Scan used for:
- Identify bone and joint disorders caused by accident or trauma.
- Find bone and spinal cord injuries.
- Diagnosis of Osteoporosis.
- Check for cancer or tumor and help prevent it from spreading.
- Get infections in several parts of the body.
- Mental disorders such as bleeding, stroke, clots, etc.
- Identify vascular conditions such as stroke, kidney failure, heart failure, etc.
- Get pain in the chest, abdomen, and several other symptoms.
- Finding lung-related infections such as COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), pneumonia, etc.
Therefore, these are some of the conditions under which MRI and CT Scans are used. It is essential to know the benefits and risks associated with MRI and CT Scans before performing them. It is recommended that you consult your doctor to determine which scan should be taken. Therefore, in the event of any disruption, a person should pass one of these tests after knowing the risks and benefits.
HOW DO DOCTORS MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION?
Your Radiology Specialist will give you advice based on your symptoms that you should receive an MRI or CT scan. A CT scan will usually be recommended if you need a general picture of an area like your internal organs or a fracture or head injury. Radiology Specialists may first use CT scans for most people unless a tumor-like object looks better on MRI. But people can go behind and forth as needed. If they see something on a CT scan that they are not sure about, an MRI may be recommended for further examination. If someone has a few MRIs and cannot lie still or hold his breath to get a good picture, CT may be suggested as an alternative. Every patient and situation is different, and the choice is guided by the principle that the benefits of the test outweigh its risks which is a matter for the medical picture.
